KUALA LUMPUR – The Umno Supreme Council and party MPs wrapped up their meeting tonight without disclosing their prime minister candidate.

Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said a meeting with Barisan Nasional leaders is underway, with BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan and coalition backbenchers leading the talks.

“We will leave it to the 42 (BN) MPs to decide (on the prime minister candidate),” he said, when leaving Umno headquarters at Menara Dato Onn here at about 9.50pm.

Earlier, council members arrived at the premises for an 8pm meeting to discuss their prime minister candidate.

As early as 7pm, Umno Supreme Council members – including Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom, Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman – were seen entering the building.

They were followed by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, who arrived at about 8.05pm, and Datuk Seri Ahmad Said at about 8.12pm.

Slightly after 9pm, Tan Sri Annuar Musa was seen entering the premises. At about 9.35pm, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein made his way into Umno headquarters.

The Umno Supreme Council meet follows an audience between political party leaders and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier today, and aims to discuss the royal audience and who will be the Umno prime minister candidate. – The Vibes, August 17, 2021
