KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi has dismissed any notion that a mentor minister be appointed into the new cabinet.

In a statement on Facebook, today, Puad who hinted at Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin being proposed for the position by various “hidden hands”, said that a newly formed government cannot be a proxy government to the previous administration.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has decreed for the new prime minister to form a unity government. The purpose is to reduce politicking.

“All parties will be held responsible and will be included. We do not want the image of PN (Perikatan Nasional) government 2.0. It should be brand new and spark unity,” he said.

As 4pm today remains the deadline for all MPs to submit their statutory declarations to determine a new prime minister, Puad also paid tribute to the king for employing orderly methods to deal with the political crisis as well as the pandemic.

Puad’s statement comes following rumours that Muhyiddin, who resigned on Monday, is due to be given a senior post in the cabinet should Umno and PN successfully form a government. – The Vibes, August 18, 2021
