BUKIT MERTAJAM – The Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) is coming down hard on traders refusing to register for vaccination.
This includes 760 traders and their workers at Jalan Pasar in Bukit Mertajam, Sg Rambai, and Taman Sri Rambai who have failed to register via the MySejahtera app for vaccination.
Seberang Prai Mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said that despite appeals and warnings from the council, the traders have yet to register.
“We will not tolerate the attitude of those who refuse to get vaccinated and yet continue to trade at the markets.
“I have instructed my officers to stop them from operating at the markets,” he said.
Rozali said this when announcing the state government’s Outreach Vaccination for Traders programme today.
He said the traders can register for vaccination at the Seberang Prai Tengah District and Land Office on August 21 and 22, and August 28 and 29 at the multipurpose hall.
Rozali said the vaccination drive would also be extended to business premises, hawker complexes, and coffee shops around the Bukit Mertajam and Taman Sri Rambai public markets where Covid-19 cases have been detected.
He said it was a prerequisite to ensure the safety of public markets, including the Bukit Mertajam public market which has been closed twice after workers there tested positive for the coronavirus. – The Vibes, August 18, 2021
