KUALA LUMPUR – A uniformed member of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) who was filmed allegedly getting aggressive with an individual, believed to be a migrant, at the Bukit Jalil vaccination centre (PPV) has filed a police report over the matter.
A spokesman from Rela contacted The Vibes, informing that the officer in the video has filed a police report, and investigations are being conducted.
Asked for the reason behind the filing of the report, the spokesman claimed that the tweet which shared the video was defamatory in nature.
“He was defamed as the tweet claimed he was punching and kicking. So let the police conduct their investigation,” the spokesperson said.
On Thursday, a netizen uploaded a video on Twitter showing a Rela officer at the Bukit Jalil PPV raising his leg and shoving back another man with his hands.
The netizen further claimed that the officer punched and kicked other migrants who were there for their vaccine appointments, but was not able to record the incidents on video.
At the time the video was uploaded Bukit Jalil PPV was the only vaccination centre accepting non-citizens for walk-ins.
Other netizens who commented on the video claimed to have witnessed authorities harassing and being rude to non-citizens at the centre.
The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) had in late July approved guidelines for undocumented migrants and refugees to receive Covid-19 vaccine shots.
The government has allowed them to get their jabs through walk-ins at the Bukit Jalil PPV without needing to make appointments. – The Vibes, August 21, 2021
