KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be addressing the nation for the first time as prime minister later today.

He will be speaking at 5.30pm in an address which will be broadcasted on RTM, Bernama TV, TV3, Astro Awani and TV Alhijrah.

According to Bernama, the Bera MP was seen leaving Perdana Putra in Putrajaya at 3.08pm, after spending four hours there since 10.55am today.

While talks remain fluid as to who he will appoint as his deputy prime minister and cabinet members, Ismail Sabri is also expected to address the Covid-19 situation and current economic crises.

He was sworn in at 2.30pm at Istana Negara yesterday as the ninth prime minister, following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

His swearing-in ceremony was held in the presence of 30 VIPs, including his predecessor, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, at the Dewan Singgahsana Kecil (Minor Throne Hall).

Other political leaders at the ceremony include Barisan Nasional adviser Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has also graced the swearing-in ceremony.

Since then, political parties have been holding closed-door meetings to discuss their future in Ismail Sabri's administration. – The Vibes, August 22, 2021
