KUALA LUMPUR – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has pointed to a speech he made on Umno’s return to power three years ago, as he celebrated the party now holding the top position in government.

In a Facebook post, today Zahid reflected on the address he made during Umno’s general assembly in 2018, after the Barisan Nasional lost in the 14th general election (GE14) due to “slander”.

“We are always ready to lead the government if anything happens to the present administration,” the Bagan Datuk MP said.

“This was part of my speech during the Umno general assembly three years ago. What was said by the Umno president on that day has now become a reality today.”

Umno marked its return to leading the country following the removal of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister last Monday, following weeks of a political impasse brought by the withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin by 15 Umno MPs.

Yesterday, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was sworn into office, securing his party’s reign over Putrajaya.

Zahid thanked Umno’s leadership, members, and supporters who had confidence in the speech he made during the assembly.

“Be assured that the dark clouds that have hit us will soon move on, fade and disappear. If we are united and strong we will surely rise,” Zahid told party delegates then.

“If we manage to face today’s political landscape we will return stronger.”

Zahid also insisted that Umno is “the best option”, compared with others.

“We are the best option to return to the government before or after GE15.”

Zahid said Umno’s next challenge was the next federal polls, which will take place once the Covid-19 pandemic is brought under control, and which was the party’s “real goal”.

“The purpose is nothing but for the sake of religion, race, and country. In order to restore the prosperity of the people and the glory of Malaysia.

“Alhamdulillah, Allah has granted all the prayers and wishes of all our Umno members.” – The Vibes, August 22, 2021
