KUALA LUMPUR – Police have submitted applications to foreign security agencies to investigate claims regarding two Malaysians detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani in a statement last night said the force takes note of a news report on two Malaysians arrested over their alleged involvement with the Islamic State.

“So far, police do not have any information regarding the involvement of Malaysians in IS activities in Afghanistan.

"However, investigations are under way to look into the possibility that the reported news involves Malaysian IS fighters who are already abroad.”

It was reported that two Malaysians are among six individuals detained by the Taliban for involvement in armed clashes in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Thursday. – Bernama, August 29, 2021
