KUALA LUMPUR – Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani is set to retire early next month, after staying an additional two years in that role, media reported.

This is despite his initial retirement date being October 3 this year.

Berita Harian said he confirmed that he would retire in the first week of July, but did not reveal the exact reason why.

“This decision was made because there is an offer out there that I have to accept at this time,” he was quoted as saying, but did not elaborate.

The New Straits Times, meanwhile, said it is believed the top cop would be leading a government-owned banking company.

So far, there has been no official statement from police or the government to confirm his early retirement. The name of his successor has also not been confirmed.

In 2021, Acryl Sani’s tenure as IGP was extended for another two years, after receiving consent from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on the advice of then prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. – The Vibes, June 19, 2023
