KOTA KINABALU – Sabah thanks the federal government for maintaining the state under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said this is despite the number of Covid-19 cases in the state which continues to spiral.

“The Sabah government thanks the federal government for allowing the state to move from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan,” he said after attending the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) meeting earlier today.

Sabah entered Phase 2 on July 10 after infections fell to two-digits.

But the number of infections began spiralling again in late July with over 3,000 daily cases recorded in over a week.

More recently it has dropped to over 2,000 cases.

On Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s announcement to assist Sabah in its fight against the pandemic, Hajiji welcomed the boost of 2.8 million doses of vaccine set to be delivered this month.

With this, the state will be able to achieve herd immunity by the end of next month.

Khairy also announced the arrival of equipment comprising oxygen tanks and regulators tomorrow. They will be part of a holistic intervention by the federal government to deal with an embattled state healthcare system in Sabah.

Hajiji also noted that Putrajaya has sent 1,056,360 doses in July, 1,650,510 doses last month and 765,920 doses up until yesterday.

“Sabah still needs 2,672,645 more doses as there are still many who have yet to complete their second shot.

“This is only for the adult population in the state and has not included those between 12 and 17 years old. – The Vibes, September 6, 2021
