KUALA LUMPUR – Daily Covid-19 cases seem to be on a downtrend as the country logged 19,198 fresh cases today, for a cumulative tally of 1,979,698.
Yesterday, 19,550 new infections were reported.
Sarawak’s dailies have jumped significantly with its 5,291 cases today, while Selangor’s are further shrinking with 2,347 infections.
Johor came in third with 2,110 cases, followed by Sabah (1,717), Kelantan (1,435), Penang (1,309), Kedah (1,256), and Perak (1,118).
Meanwhile, Terengganu logged 930 infections, followed by Pahang (584), Kuala Lumpur (376), Melaka (340), and Negri Sembilan (283).
Perlis, Putrajaya and Labuan reported 67, 32, and three cases, respectively.
The bed occupancy rate in intensive care units (ICUs) stands at 78%, while non-ICU beds are 75% occupied.
On the vaccine front, 90.9% of the adult population have received one dose while 72.7% are fully vaccinated. As a whole, 65.2% of Malaysians are single-jabbed while 52.1% have gotten both shots.
In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 19,198 new cases today, 253 (1.3%) are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 18,945 cases (98.7%) are in the less severe Categories of 1 and 2.
Noor Hisham said the country also recorded 20,980 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 1,721,713.
He reported that 1,298 patients are under intensive care, 744 require breathing assistance and five cases are imported.
The infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is below 1.0 at an R-naught of 0.99.
Topping the list is Sarawak with 1.15, Terengganu (1.09), Johor (1.05), Perak (1.05), Pahang (1.04), Penang (1.03), Perlis (1.02) and Kelantan (1.02).
Noor Hisham said that the country has seen a total of 5,121 clusters, including 34 new clusters today.
A total of 3,681 clusters have ended, leaving 1,440 active.
He said 17 of the new clusters are related to workplaces, 14 from the community, two related to high-risk groups, while one is linked to religious activities. – The Vibes, September 12, 2021
