KUALA LUMPUR – The sacrifices and contribution of the country’s frontliners and national athletes who took part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games did not go unnoticed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today led members of both parliamentary houses to honour and pay their respects to these groups of individuals.
“I would like all of you to stand up and give a round of applause to our front-line workers and athletes who succeeded in the Olympics and Paralympics,” he said in his royal address, which was followed by a thunderous applause by the MPs and senators.
In his speech, the Agong congratulated the national athletes, saying they made the country proud.
Similarly, he said he valued the loyalty and contribution of the civil servants – the military, police and other government agencies – who ensured that Malaysia remained peaceful, prosperous and respected.
His Majesty also highlighted how frontliners, particularly those in the health fraternity, have continued to endeavour and serve the country in facing the Covid-19 pandemic, without recognising their fatigue.
“As such, let us all continue supporting them and record our highest gratitude for their service.”
The Agong’s message will be particularly welcomed by the country’s frontliners, who have had little to no rest in their bid to contain the Covid-19 virus, which has plagued the country since early last year.
As for the national athletes, Malaysia won one silver and one bronze medal at the Olympics – their second-best achievement at the Games.
At the Paralympics, the country scored three gold medals and two silvers, making it the most successful outing in the nation’s history. – The Vibes, September 13, 2021
