KUALA LUMPUR – After suspending R.S.N. Rayer (Jelutong-PH) for two days, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat-Bersatu) has reduced it to only a day, allowing the DAP firebrand back into the House tomorrow.
Opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Port Dickson-PH) made the request shortly before debating the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s address in Parliament today.
“There are questions from the floor regarding the word ‘memalukan’ (embarrassing). They question it because the word itself is not rude. In fact, around 50 MPs also used the word. Don’t tell me you’re going to suspend all 50 of them?” said Anwar.
“So, I would like to request your discretion to allow Jelutong to attend the proceedings tomorrow.”
Rashid acknowledged the request, and said he was informed by Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun of the matter.
Rashid said he gives due respect to members of the House, therefore, they should accord him the same.
“Based on my discretion, I’ve decided on one day (suspension), and tomorrow, he can come back. But, I hope the opposition leader can, at the very least, advise him to tone down his provocation so that we can conduct our duty.”
Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali (Kuala Nerus-PAS) then took the floor and reminded the House that an MP should conduct himself with decorum.
He said once Rayer is back, the lawmaker should apologise for his behaviour.
This morning, Rayer described Rashid’s behaviour as “memalukan” when the latter refused to disclose the reason behind his decision to bin motions to remove Azhar as speaker. – The Vibes, September 14, 2021
