MIRI – Sarawak today confirmed that another 20 individuals died of Covid-19, the state’s highest daily death toll so far, amid the push by state leaders to enter an endemic phase.
Of the 20 victims, three were brought-in-dead cases, said the state Disaster Management Committee.
This brings the total death toll in Sarawak to 689.
Its secretariat said Sibu recorded four deaths – three women aged 52, 55 and 82, and a man aged 70. Serian saw three deaths – a woman aged 90 and two men aged 70 and 97.
Miri saw two victims – men aged 66 and 88.
In Lubok Antu, the two deaths involved women aged 73 and 79.
In Sri Aman, two men aged 66 and 74 died while in Kanowit, a 68-year-old man succumbed to the coronavirus.
Bintulu saw the death of a man, 45, and other deaths were recorded in Beluru (a woman aged 90), Matu (a man aged 75), Kuching (a woman aged 77), Bau (a man aged 86) and Selangau (a man aged 62).
The state also recorded 2,707 new infections today, the highest among the states.
Kuching recorded 697 cases, followed by Bintulu (355), Sibu (333), Miri (228), Samarahan (165) and Serian (162). Other districts logged several dozen cases each. – The Vibes, September 19, 2021
