KUALA LUMPUR – Putrajaya has outright denied claims made by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the Prime Minister’s Department paid RM2 billion to consultants to help prepare the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

In a statement today, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed explained that the national development plan was prepared by EPU officers.

“The EPU, under the Prime Minister’s Department, had never spent RM2 billion to complete the 12MP book, as claimed by Anwar.

“The national development plan for the next five years was prepared by EPU officers under my supervision, based on input from engaging multiple parties.

“Preparing the 12MP involved a very minor cost for engagement sessions, printing and media consultants,” said the Jeli lawmaker, who is also fondly known as Tok Pa.

He voiced his hope that Anwar, who is also Port Dickson MP, will correct his statement to avoid any negative perception towards EPU officers and the government.

Earlier today, the opposition chief had lambasted the federal administration and made the accusation during his debate of the 12MP in the Dewan Rakyat. – The Vibes, September 28, 2021
