KUALA LUMPUR – The Umno Supreme Council is expected to meet tonight to ensure party members are streamlined in the party's decision over Umno's future and its participation in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob confirmed to The Vibes that a meeting is scheduled to take place at Umno party headquarters tonight.
However, he did not elaborate beyond that.
The meeting, say sources, is important to make Umno's stand clear before Parliament reconvenes on Monday.
Sources say that the party is unhappy with the response from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over Umno's requests for Cabinet posts and its views on certain policies and issues.
"The meeting is to deliberate again over their relationship with PN.
"Umno wants clarity with regards to policies and issues that are important for the party which it wants the current administration to pursue," the source added.
Among the issues up for discussion are economic recovery plans and Bumiputra business participation, while Umno is also seeking more significant positions in Cabinet including the Finance, Economic Affairs and Home portfolios.
The Supreme Council had met on October 26 to discuss either forming new alliances or sticking with the present one.
At the end of that meeting it was decided that Umno would stick with PN for the time being. – The Vibes, Oct 29, 2020
