MELAKA – A day after announcing their withdrawal of support for the Melaka chief minister, Datuk Seri Idris Haron and two other exco members have offered an explanation for their action, which triggered a political crisis in the state.

Idris, who is Sg Udang rep, said there is interference by certain individuals resulting in excos being unable to carry out their role and responsibility to the people properly.

He said the matters referred to now outgoing chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali for action could not be decided by him, and the issues were instead referred to other parties.

“I have no problem with Sulaiman… he is a good person and he respects everyone, but I have a problem with (the leadership) of the chief minister, who is a puppet of certain individuals,” he told a press conference here today.

“I have a problem with the (leadership) of the chief minister, who has to refer the decision to someone else. We have 10 excos and we have the right to make decisions, but this could not be implemented.”

Present at presser were Pengkalan Batu rep Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee and Telok Mas’ Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad.

Pantai Kundor’s Datuk Nor Azman Hassan did not attend as he is said to be unwell.

Idris said the situation affected excos’ role as many decisions could not be implemented, resulting in a negative impact on Melaka’s development and economy.

Asked about rumours that he will be reappointed chief minister, he said this is not his priority, and that efforts to form a new state administration are more pressing.

“All assemblymen in Pakatan Harapan have the potential to become Melaka chief minister, and so far, I have not nominated myself, and we have not talked about this.”

He said another two assemblymen from Umno will make a similar announcement with regard to the state leadership.

Melaka Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh earlier said the state assembly’s dissolution took effect yesterday and was gazetted today. – Bernama, October 5, 2021
