KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) council has set up a special committee to refine development strategies for the state, and formulate new ones, for presentation to the Sabah government.
In a joint statement today, the state coalition’s leaders said that the committee will propose a bipartisan collaboration with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government to focus on the implementation of the strategies.
The decision was made in a meeting last night which was conducted to discuss issues relating to the Covid-19 pandemic and politics.
“Sabah PH as a political coalition opines that the spirit of bipartisanship like what has been started in the federal government can be adopted at the state government level so that the focus can go towards recovery and redevelopment of Sabah now.
“The government cannot rely on the vaccination programme alone,” said the statement signed by Datuk Christina Liew (PKR), Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung (DAP), Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (Upko) and Lahirul Latigu (Amanah).
They said that recovery strategies involving public health should be followed with immediate drafting and implementation of plans for economic and infrastructure development of the state.
“The state government should play a more pragmatic role and be transparent with the recovery and redevelopment programme. This is no longer about politics, this is about the public interest of the people,” they said.
The Sabah PH leaders also said lessons should be learned from the changing of prime minister three times in two years amid the pandemic due to political turmoil. They cited the latest happening in Melaka which led to the state assembly being dissolved and new state elections being called.
“We believe that the political stability in Sabah will also be jeopardised if the same thing is done in the state government.
“The people should not be burdened by political problems,” they said.
