KUALA LUMPUR – Although the state of emergency is long over, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub (Pulai-PH) said there are lessons for the current and future governments to learn from.
Salahuddin reminded that problems pertaining to the emergency unravelled when Parliament convened for a special sitting from July 26 to August 2.
“On the morning of July 29, the speaker gave a long lecture as to whether the ordinances require an assent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, because the cabinet revoked the ordinances on July 21 already,” Salahuddin told the Dewan Rakyat today, while debating the emergency ordinances.
He said the matter would have been solved if Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan admitted to his mistakes and took the effort to garner an assent from the Agong.
Salahuddin said a government should not make any mistakes, noting that mistakes had caused the collapse of the Perikatan Nasional administration.
The Pulai MP added that the state of emergency and the ordinances were not needed.
