KUALA TERENGGANU – PAS should start seeing itself as a “kingmaker” in the next general election seeing it is being wooed by Malay-based parties Umno and Bersatu.
During its muktamar today, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said that the party is in “demand” for the coming election so it needs to be wise.
“We should not be confined to being a passenger in our political journey. PAS must work towards becoming the strategic force in the 15th general election, based on the contested seats, not just the number of seats won.”
He added that PAS as an Islamist party needs to be principled and offer strong leadership,
PAS is currently holding its two-day muktamar at Duyong Marina & Resort here.
Hadi said that PAS has a role in trying to unite the Malay-Muslims by extending its cooperation to Bersatu and Umno.
“Both parties were united due to PAS’ role in Muafakat Nasional (Umno) and Perikatan Nasional (Bersatu).”
Later, he said in a press conference that PAS will stand by its decision to work with PN in the Melaka election but at the same time remains committed to Muafakat Nasional with Umno as its ultimate aim is to secure Malay-Muslim unity.
“Our commitment in Melaka is to support PN. PAS will also use the PN symbol in the state polls.”
PAS is also expected to announce its candidates for the Melaka polls later today and plans to contest at least nine seats. – The Vibes, November 6, 2021
