MIRI – Sarawak PAS has deployed more members of its famous welfare and security arm Unit Amal into Malay-majority villages in its constituencies, seeing that it is keen to contest the upcoming 12th state election.
The party’s outreach programmes have targeted areas such as Limbang, Lawas, Bekenu and Lambir in northern Sarawak; Matu, Daro, Mukah, Nangka and Semop in central Sarawak; and Semariang, Asajaya, Samarahan, Satok and Padawan in southern Sarawak.
The Vibes was told that this time, the unit is largely made up of women who will be going from village from village to distribute food aid and other basic necessities.
At the same time, PAS has also set up its Sarawak election unit with Dayangku Huda Ahmad as its director.
The state election head said on PAS’ social media sites that the party is concerned about the welfare of ordinary Sarawakians.
“We want to reach out to all in the community. We want to play a role in transforming the rakyat’s social and economic standard of life,” she said in their latest social media postings.
At state level, the Islamist party’s chapter is the working partner of ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), while at national level, the two are partners in Putrajaya with their own respective cabinet members.
However, at the same time PAS Sarawak have also insisted that it will be contesting up to 13 state constituencies in the upcoming elections.
It had fielded candidates in past elections against Sarawak Barisan Nasional but failed to secure any victories.
