KUALA LUMPUR – The message is clear. A Caucasian woman nicknamed “KLCC Karen” has been told to leave Malaysia if she continues to refuse to comply with the mandated Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

She drew more brickbats after uploading a video explaining herself, saying she is merely exercising her freedom to choose while using certain Malay terminologies.

Most social media users commented that she should just leave Malaysia.

“She’s always welcome to leave the country if she doesn’t want to comply with the mask mandate.

“She got fined RM3000 which is a pittance to someone who’s rubbing shoulders with Malaysia’s elites. Y’all don’t have to portray her as a victim when she clearly reeks of privilege,” said Twitter user @doktorrezz.

“If you truly want to say Malaysia is your home, then follow the rules in this country. Other immigrants here can adhere to the SOP, what’s so special about you?

“Or go back to your original country. No one is stopping you, in fact, (they) welcome it,” said another user known as @mirulrighthere.

“If she wanna do what she likes, feel free to leave Malaysia..Don’t act like a victim where clearly she doesn’t follow rules. Don’t normalise wrongdoings just to get an easy way out,” @AttyIsmail said.

In the two-minute and 20-second video uploaded on the 117%WeThePeople Twitter page yesterday, the Caucasian woman also used the catchphrase “Let’s Go Brandon” that some netizens say may indicate she holds far-right ideologies.

“It’s embarrassing that there are those supporting Karen Dior. She’s obviously a closeted QAnon,” @amirmaukurus commented.

“You can check out their supporters here: 117%WeThePeople. Around a hundred of them, including some Malaysians.

“I remember one Western Twitter user who called for a secular government in Malaysia, and is also an anti-vaxxer,” @LoshadSpaceport said.

In the video, the woman refers to herself as Karen Dior saying there are countries that have withdrawn mask mandates.

“Our song is freedom, freedom to choose what we eat, where we go, who we go with and what we do to our bodies medically or otherwise.

“It is a choice, your choice, my choice.

“Many countries are giving the mandates, there are links below, you are invited to read them and form your own opinion,” the woman said.

She then proceeds to use Malay terminologies to drive her point across, such as “rumah terbuka” (open house) and “makanan enak” (tasty food).

The woman then asks Malaysians to imagine an open house every day for a united Malaysia, before saying a man who is not aware of his rights has no rights.

On October 31, the Caucasian woman was slapped with a RM3,000 fine for refusing to wear a face mask and checking in via MySejahtera at a retail outlet in Suria KLCC.

A video of the incident, where the woman argued with retail staff in KLCC, went viral on social media, leading netizens to label her “Karen”, a pejorative term to describe a woman with an inflated sense of entitlement. – The Vibes, November 7, 2021
