KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) will be fielding 10 candidates from its component parties’ youth wings in the upcoming Melaka state elections on November 20.
In a press conference today, PH youth chief Howard Lee Chuan How introduced the 10 candidates to the media at Amanah’s Melaka office.
All 10 candidates, Lee says, comprise members from the youth wings of PH’s component parties and are all under the age of 40.
“Ten out of the 28 candidates or 35% of the candidates fielded by PH are from the coalition’s various youth wings. This shows that the demands from PH youth have been met.
“Given 40% of the Melaka electorate comprise individuals below 40-years-old, it’s very welcoming for our candidates,” Lee said.
Meanwhile, newly appointed head of Amanah’s youth wing Mohd Hasbie Muda pointed out that the young candidates fielded by PH for the Melaka elections have the necessary academic background and work record to serve their constituents.
Additionally, Hasbie hopes to win the state’s votes, with PH’s commitment to field young and qualified candidates as well as with the coalition’s track record governing Melaka for nearly two years from 2018.
“I would like to state our appreciation to PH’s leadership for the faith given towards our youth candidates.
“Following their academic backgrounds and work records, these youth candidates not only have credibility but also integrity,” Hasbie said.
Further, given two of the youth candidates fielded by PH are women, PKR women’s wing vice-president Sangeetha Jayakumar suggests that this is an opportunity to fight for women issues.
She said, although youth, in general, have been affected by the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, young women have been affected more severely.
PH’s youth candidates are: Alex Seah (N19-Kesidang), Muhamad Danish (N15-Pengkalan Batu), Prasanth Kumar (N25-Rim), Farzana Hayani (N28-Sg Rambai), Khomeini Kamal (N26-Sekam), G.
