KUALA LUMPUR – Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik today announced his withdrawal from Pejuang, effective immediately.
The former education minister, in a statement, said he will continue assisting his constituents and Malaysians at large as an independent lawmaker.
He said he does not need power or positions in political parties to perform his duties, adding that the people have grown tired of politicking among leaders.
“I want to give my all to assist the rakyat who are affected by Covid-19. I will also continue my efforts to uplift our education as an independent MP, and through activism and humanitarian work via NGOs and with fellow activists.
“I believe changes do not require positions and power, but will and opportunity.
“I am confident that the rakyat are sick with the scheming by elite politicians. They want politicians who are focused on serving and assisting the rakyat.”
His announcement comes just a day after Pejuang released a statement urging for Budget 2021 to be scrutinised by all MPs before they decide whether to support it.
The statement was signed by all parliamentarians in Pejuang’s pro tem committee except Maszlee, which set tongues wagging.
He was among five leaders sacked by Bersatu in May for sitting on the opposition bench in Parliament after president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin pulled the party out of Pakatan Harapan and formed the Perikatan Nasional government. – The Vibes, November 2, 2020
