KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Bersatu election director Badrul Hisham Shaharin has lambasted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his administration over the spike in Covid-19 deaths during his first 100 days of holding office.

Badrul, who is known as Chegubard, told a press conference that the increased death rate is ironic, seeing that there were many politicians who had betrayed Ismail Sabri’s predecessor described the previous leadership as a failure over the number of Covid-19 deaths.

“In 18 months under (former prime minister) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, there were a total of 12,784 cumulative deaths (with a 23-per-day average).

“However, many may not realise that today’s data in CovidNow has recorded a total cumulative death of 36,719 individuals. This means that there were additional 23,935 deaths.

“Since August 17 (a day before Muhyiddin stepped down), the average death rate has stood at 215 deaths a day. Where were the traitors who behaved like ‘heroes’ who pulled their support until the government collapsed?”

Muhyiddin is Bersatu president.

He added that the current administration seemed to be less aware of the latest problem regarding the Omicron variant, referring to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s November 29 denial that the virus had hit Perak after the information went viral.

Later, on December 2, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had confirmed that the Omicron variant was detected in Perak.

On November 26, Khairy had also barred travellers from seven African nations from entering the country effective the following day. Yesterday, he added Malawi to the list. – The Vibes, December 4, 2021
