MIRI – A 5-month-old baby boy, who died at home, is one of three Covid-19 victims in Sarawak today.

All three are from Limbang with the other two victims being a 73-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man.

The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said in a statement that the baby did not have any known illnesses.

“The baby died on December 7 and the body was sent to Lawas Hospital. Checks confirmed today that the death was due to Covid-19.”

This baby is the second youngest coronavirus victim after a 4-month-old baby girl in Bintulu succumbed to the illness on November 25.

Today, 74 new cases were reported in Sarawak, with Kuching and Miri having 29 each while other districts logged single-digit cases.

The secretariat said the state authorities are tightening checks at the main entry points following reports of increasing Omicron cases in the UK, France, Norway, Australia, the US and Africa.

Visitors who have been to high-risk countries within the past two weeks will not be allowed to enter Sarawak.

Travellers are urged to check the State Disaster Management Committee website for further instructions.

Meanwhile, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that Malaysia has logged 4,626 new Covid-19 cases today. – The Vibes, December 11, 2021
