[UPDATED] Govt sets RM5k for funeral management, RM1,000 aid to be distributed tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR – The government will be providing financial assistance of RM5,000 for funeral management of flood victims, while the RM1,000 aid will be distributed starting tomorrow, said the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

Director-General Datuk Aminuddin Hassim, during a press conference in Taman Sri Muda today, said the bereavement aid will be given to the next of kin.

He reiterated that RM1,000 will be provided to the head of the family of flood victims, regardless whether they have been placed at temporary relief centres.

“Among the eligibility requirements is that the victim must be Malaysian, and have a valid identity card (MyKad).

“The victims must register their names using the name of their head of family. The registration of the name must be valid, stating whether they were relocated to a temporary relief centre or otherwise.

“For those who have been relocated, they will have to register with the Social Welfare Department, while those not relocated will have to register with the Development and Security Committee, Community Management Council, head of community, or their village chief.”

Simplifying process

Meanwhile, the government will start channelling allocation to flood-hit states beginning tomorrow.

“I have chaired a meeting with the state management committee, and we discussed ways to simplify the process.

“We will try gathering the details today and God willing, we will try to start channelling the allocation starting tomorrow.  

“In line with the prime minister’s orders to hasten distribution, the state government is requested to do so as well.

“If the federal government has increased the pace, we hope that the state government will also facilitate the process,” Aminuddin said.

Last Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the RM1,000 flood aid, and that the government will provide RM100 million in post-flood allocations for the repair of homes and infrastructure.
