KUALA LUMPUR – Ongoing repairs to a sinkhole on Jalan Kinabalu heading to Cheras in areas behind the Federal House, which will take two to three days, have caused a bumper-to-bumper jam.

According to a statement by Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Sarifudin Mohd Salleh, the sinkhole was caused by a sunken road.

Sarifudin said the road was closed by the department at 10.30am this morning.

He advised motorists to not use the route and abide by road signages.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative roads pending remedial works. Vehicles from Selayang heading to Cheras and the south are diverted to the Dato’ Onn roundabout, Jalan Parlimen, and then to Jalan Sultan Iskandar and to the south again.

“Vehicles from Jalan Maharajalela, the Sultan Muhammad roundabout, and Bulatan Hishamuddin are diverted to Jalan Raja, to the city centre or to the north again,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said vehicles from the direction of Jalan Parlimen to the Dato’ Onn roundabout are diverted to Jalan Kuching and vehicles from Jalan Tun Perak to the same roundabout are directed to Jalan Parlimen.

Earlier, Astro Radio Traffic cautioned road users to expect a 45-minute delay in both directions between Jalan Kuching and Jalan Maharajalela due to the sinkhole incident on Jalan Kinabalu. – The Vibes, January 4, 2022
