KOTA KINABALU – A 53-year-old teacher at a madrasah in Putatan has become the index case of another coronavirus cluster involving schools in Sabah.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the local teacher tested positive for Covid-19 on January 17.
The cluster is identified as the Pandan-Pandan cluster involving Madrasah Darul Hadis Sabah, which is located in Pasir Putih in the Putatan district here, he said.
Masidi said the patient had shown symptoms such as fever, cough, flu, and body aches and was currently being quarantined.
"Screening of close contacts found 15 more people positive with Covid-19, including workers and students, taking the total cases to 16.
“14 of these cases were reported today,” he said in a statement here tonight.
Masidi said 256 new cases have been reported in Sabah, up 14 cases from yesterday, with all of them linked to the Pandan-Pandan cluster.
He said cases involving children under 12 recorded a spike and accounted for 15% of the total new cases for the day.
“At the same time, 29 people or 11.3% of the new patients registered today are unvaccinated,” said Masidi, adding that 252 of cases are those in categories 1 and 2.
Sabah also posted two deaths from Covid-19.
