IPOH – The presence of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad at the launching of the Aulong Sports Arena here hosted by DAP’s Nga Kor Ming yesterday is commendable as it shows maturity in politics, said Perak DAP vice-chairman Abdul Aziz Bari.

Aziz, who is also the state opposition leader, said Saarani’s readiness to be present should be commended, not only in the state, but throughout the country.

“I commend the menteri besar of Perak for adopting a mature political approach, especially his willingness to attend a programme organised by the opposition in the state.

“New and mature politics are crucial to reducing unnecessary and extreme shifts and disputes. The welfare of the people must be given priority.

“The menteri besar’s approach is not at odds with the government and opposition’s positions and roles, especially in the context of a Westminster democracy,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Saarani reportedly said that he attended the event at the invitation of Aulong assemblyman and state DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming, and not at the party’s invitation.

He said that despite their differences in opinion and views, he would allocate opposition assemblymen the same funds government represenatives receive to spend on the people’s needs.

“Whoever becomes the menteri besar must look after the welfare of all Perak residents, and this is my responsibility,” he said.

Saarani was commenting on a statement by state MCA Youth chief Daniel Wa on WhatsApp, which among others questioned Saarani sharing a stage with Nga as if the menteri besar did respect the spirit of Barisan Nasional and its components. – Bernama, January 24, 2022
