SUBANG JAYA – As more people lose their jobs in this current economy, assemblyman Michelle Ng will be organising a virtual fair to help match jobseekers with potential employers.
From November 19 to 21, the online event, which has the support of the Subang Jaya City Council, aims to help those who have lost their jobs find employment.
“Costa Coffee, Sunway, Citi-Link are companies that have expressed interest in joining the programme. Also joining us are 10 local SMEs. We are hoping to get 100 companies to sign up,” said Ng.

Ng said signs of increasing joblessness grow clearer every day in her constituency.
“One of our pilots who lives in Subang Jaya lost his job, and now, he has set up a food stall in Boom Town, USJ,” she said at an event organised by her office yesterday.
She was referring to retrenched Malindo Air pilot Captain Azrin Mohamad Zawawi, who now mans the Kapten Corner stall while wearing his full commercial pilot uniform complete with a peak cap.
In July, the Department of Statistics reported that 826,100 Malaysians were unemployed as of May since the Covid-19 movement control order (MCO) was initiated in March.
But are there really no job vacancies at all? Ng believes this is not the case.
“There was this one programme that we organised earlier in the year, I noticed that a manager (of an event space) was setting up microphones all by himself.
“I was told that they had to let go of people because of Covid-19. When asked whether there is a need for him to have more staff, he answered yes.”
Meanwhile, Ng’s office was also involved in the Lions Club of Subang Jaya’s (LCSJ) mask donation to underprivileged children in Sabah.
“These 100,000 pieces of medical-grade three-ply children’s face masks will be sent to Sabah and distributed in partnership with Sabah Methodist Crisis Relief and Development,” said LCSJ programme director Jimmy Yeap.
“The masks will be distributed to villages, schools and children’s hospitals in Sabah. LCSJ hopes that the masks will go a long way to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 among youth in Sabah.” – The Vibes, November 8, 2020
