AN attempt by a man and a woman to escape from a police check backfired when they were arrested at the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) on Friday.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said that in the incident at about 9.05 pm, the Proton Preve car the suspect was travelling in was spotted trying to escape a police check near the Subang Toll Plaza exit heading towards Shah Alam.

"The male suspect drove dangerously before entering the Subang Jaya intersection and crashed into a black BMW car at the traffic lights at Persiaran Tujuan, Subang Jaya.

"The suspect was, however, successfully arrested by the police after chasing the vehicle," he said in a statement.

Shamsudin said an inspection of the vehicle found 17 transparent packets containing suspected drugs weighing approximately 16 grams.

"The local male suspect has 21 previous criminal and drug records, while the foreign female suspect has no criminal record.

"The results of the initial urine screening test found that the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, while the female suspect tested negative for drugs," he said.

According to him, both suspects have been detained, and a remand application has been granted for three days until Sunday.

"The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

Meanwhile, Shamsudin advised the public not to spread inaccurate information on social media or speculate about the incident.

"Witnesses who have information related to the case are asked to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-79662222 to assist in the investigation," he said. – May 2, 2025
