KUALA LUMPUR – Newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia is set to test the waters as it aims to run for two state seats in the looming Johor election.

In a statement, the party’s information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid said the decision to contest in the March 12 polls was decided by its supreme council.

He said the party will announce the fielding of its candidates before nomination day on February 26.

“Johor is the best field for us to introduce The Great Reset 2030 agenda, which consists of six main pillars: fostering racial unity, raising youth involvement, consolidating women’s roles, propelling economic development, generating science and technological developments, and raising the level of education in Malaysia.

“We hope we will become healthy competition to other political parties that are contesting in the election, with the commitment to strengthen democratic aspirations in Johor.”

However, Zakaria did not mention which seats the party will be contesting in the polls.

The party was formed late last year and consists of politicians who are mostly former PKR leaders.

In early January, Julau MP Larry Sng Wei Shien was elected as party president, while former Wanita PKR chief and current Lembah Jaya assemblywoman Haniza Mohamed Talha was appointed as PBM’s deputy president.

Another former PKR member who made top ranks in the new party, Johor’s Tebrau MP Steven Choong, was made senior vice-president I.

Despite having some familiar faces, political observers had said the party is unlikely to be a formidable force, likening its leaders to “old wine in a new bottle” because they contested under different parties in the 2018 election. – The Vibes, February 10, 2022
