KOTA KINABALU – Two French men were involved in an accident during a group paragliding session near Mount Kinabalu today, leaving one injured and another unharmed.
The Ranau Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement today, said it had received a call about the incident at 7.39am today.
The victim had injured his left leg after he hit the surface of KM 7.5 of Mount Kinabalu when descending during his paragliding session.
He received early medical treatment from the Mountain Search and Rescue team and then was carried down by a Robinson stretcher to Timpohon Gate. He was later sent to Ranau Hospital for further medical treatment.
The department received another distress call at 10.52am when another victim, a 54-year-old man, went off course when paragliding, and then got stuck on a tree in Kiau View Trail Forest, Sabah Park, Mount Kinabalu area.
“The victim was at 60 feet high, and the department was able to rescue the victim at about 3.56pm with rescue rope 3:1. The victim was not injured and did not need further medical treatment,” the statement read.
The department noted that there were a total of eight people involved in paragliding activities – one was injured while the rest were safe.
The Ranau Fire and Rescue Department sent 14 personnel on the rescue mission, and they were accompanied by Sabah Parks personnel. –The Vibes, February 14, 2022
