KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has called for a de-escalation of the conflict in Ukraine in order to prevent further devastation and loss of life.

He also reiterated his call for a peaceful solution to be achieved.

An earlier post on Twitter calling for the warring nations to “come to a peaceful resolution” has since been deleted from the PM’s official account.

The Bera MP, in his latest statement today, laid emphasis on international law and the United Nations Charter.

He urged the United Nations Security Council to “carry out its primary responsibility” in maintaining international peace and security.

He added that the Malaysian embassy in Kyiv is currently in the process of evacuating the eight remaining Malaysian nationals and two of their foreign dependents.

Yesterday, a UN Security Council vote to condemn the invasion of Ukraine failed after permanent security council member Russia vetoed the vote.

Eleven of the council’s 15 members voted in favour of the motion while China, India, and the United Arab Emirates abstained. – The Vibes, February 26, 2022
