KOTA ISKANDAR – Authorities from the Johor Bahru Health Department issued three compounds against an organiser of a Pakatan Harapan ceramah, for what is understood to be three separate offences.

Among them include speakers at the event not wearing masks during speeches, failure to ensure social distancing, and failure to ensure entry and exit points.

For each offence, the organiser was fined RM1,000, bringing the compound total to RM3,000.

Former Kota Iskandar assemblyman Dzulkefly Ahmad was seen sparring with the authorities when the compound was being issued, arguing that the issuance was unfair.

“Why didn’t you advise us earlier (during the event itself)? Why did you wait until it was over before you issued the fine?” the incumbent was heard to have asked.

Apparently, an unnamed officer replied that they had arrived prior to the event to inform the organisers of the dos and the don’ts of the event.

However, Dzulkefly badgered the authorities over the fact that they could have interrupted the event and advised the organisers to either disperse the crowd or remind them to adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedures instead of issuing the fine.

The argument seemed to be going in circles until the officers from the Health Department told Dzulkefly that the compound can be challenged at the district health office.

Today’s ceramah was held in Taman Mutiara Rini, featuring speakers comprising Dzulkefly, Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya, DAP Johor chief Liew Chin Tong, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and state party chief Aminolhuda Hassan. – The Vibes, March 1, 2022
