BUTTERWORTH – The recently introduced “PPP” series of car number plates in Penang has created a new nationwide sales record of RM7.2 million, the highest ever generated through the Road Transport Department’s JPJeBid platform.
This surpasses the previous record of RM3.7 million, which was generated through the “SYG” series of number plates.
Road Transport Department Planning and Operations Unit Deputy Director Zamakhshari Hanipah said the bidding, which opened at midnight last Thursday and ended on Monday, saw the highest bids for PPP1, PPP9 and PPP6, which recorded bids of RM260,000, RM160,000, and RM140,000 respectively.
“The registration numbers won through the bidding have to be registered with a car within the next 12 months at the state Road Transport Department headquarters or its branches.
“The public can also book their favourite numbers from the ID mySIKAP websites,” he said during a press conference at the state Road Transport Department headquarters.
There were a total of eight bidders for PPP 1, six bidders for PPP 9, and five bidders for PPP6.
The other highest bid numbers were PP7, which fetched RM120,000; PPP888 for RM110,000, and PPP 999 with 28 bidders, of whom the highest paid RM106,000.
Zamakhshari added that one individual even submitted 11 bids, but declined to elaborate on which registration number they were for.
In total, there were 4,917 successful bidders.
He said the department would open bidding after midnight today for the KFA and PPQ registration numbers.
Zamakhshari said the government had decided to introduce end-to-end (E2E) online services to adapt to the new normal following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
