KUALA LUMPUR – Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham refuted a comment from an MP in the Dewan Rakyat that he was refusing to “go to the ground” for fear of death.

Dr Noor Hisham clarified that he has been visiting affected areas, especially in Sabah, since August, while overlooking the planning and management in anticipation of the Sabah state election.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing had said in the Dewan Rakyat earlier today claiming that Dr Noor Hisham was refusing to “go to the ground” in fear of death.

“Besides, I have also ordered my deputy Datuk Dr Chong Chee Keong and Special Advisor (Health) to the Prime Minister Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood to visit affected areas in the last two weeks.

“There is no issue of us being scared of death. As Muslims, we accept death can happen anywhere at any time, not just when we go to the ground,” Dr Noor Hisham said in his daily press briefing.

Earlier today, a commotion broke out in the Dewan Rakyat after Tiong accused Noor Hisham of not “going to the ground” to fight with frontliners as he is fearful of death, prompting a rebuke from Jelutong MP R.S.N Rayer who demanded Tiong retract his statement.

This led to a ruckus and Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said ordered Rayer to sit. Upon being ignored, she ejected him from the Dewan. – The Vibes, November 11, 2020
