KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s Covid-19 vaccination rate for children aged 5 to 11 for their first dose is only 24% despite the full resumption of in-person classes in another two weeks.

State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the rate is far lower than what the ministry had targeted, which is for 50% of school-going children to be vaccinated before in-person classes resume.

“As of April 8, the Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Kids found that of 411,400 children in the state, 24.15% have received their first dose while only 1.35% have been fully vaccinated.

“We advise parents to have their school-going children vaccinated,” he said when met by reporters after a breaking fast event in Sabah International Convention Centre here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sabah Covid-19 official spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who was also present at the event, reminded the public to practise safe social distancing and obey the standard operating procedures, especially when visiting Ramadan bazaars. – The Vibes, April 10, 2022
