KUALA LUMPUR – Fugitive businessman Nicky Liow Soon Hee has surrendered to police this afternoon, while accompanied by his lawyer, said Bukit Aman.
Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din confirmed the matter with China Press, saying that more details will be released in a statement later.
Liow, 34, has been on the lam for more than a year and was charged in absentia on April 9 last year for being involved in organised crime. If found guilty, he will face 20 years’ imprisonment.
He was also stripped of the Darjah Kebesaran Darjah Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang and Datuk Seri title a day before he was charged. The revocations were made on the order of the Pahang sultan.
Nearly 70 individuals were hauled up by police in March last year during the investigations into Geng Nicky, and more than a dozen luxury vehicles and millions in foreign currencies were seized.
Other than Liow, 15 individuals including his brothers were charged for their involvement in organised crime and money laundering activities.
It was also reported that 10 policemen and two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers were arrested over their alleged links to Geng Nicky, said Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay on April 27 last year.
On March 30 last year, Johor police scored a major victory against Macau Scam operators with the crippling of Geng Nicky following the arrest of 68 people under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) and for other offences during Op Pelican 3.0. – The Vibes, April 11, 2022
