KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) are expected to receive six MD530G helicopters in stages beginning June next year, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Without providing further details, he said the assets will first need to undergo an evaluation to ensure they meet MAF criteria before Malaysia accepts them.

“This is to find out whether the helicopters are suitable as MAF’s assets.

“Today, a team left for the US to carry out a test before the helicopters are certified as MAF assets,” he said after appearing as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara: Budget 2021 programme, at Wisma Bernama here last night.

He said another team will be sent to the US to conduct the certification process if the aircraft are found suitable.

He added that the ministry is in the midst of applying to the Public Service Department to increase the number of MAF personnel, especially in Sabah and Sarawak. – Bernama, November 14, 2020
