KUALA LUMPUR – DAP has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to make public the names of those it is investigating in the alleged graft involving purchases by the health services sector.
Secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said if the identity of a judge was revealed in the course of the MACC’s investigations, the anti-graft body can do the same for those being probed over questionable procurement practices and abuse of power.
“I urge the Public Accounts Committee to call on the MACC chief commissioner to provide it with information on the issue to ensure every government expense is well managed,” he said in a statement today.
He also called for greater transparency from the MACC by naming the ministries, government departments, ministers and deputies possibly involved as well as the amount misappropriated.
Yesterday, MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said his agency had opened several investigations into procurement activities related to Covid-19 that allegedly had elements of corruption and malfeasance.
He said the investigations were on corrupt activities in the procurement of medical services, abuse of power to divert aid and stimulus packages, and fraud related to medical equipment.
“Medical-related fraud also included masks, gloves and others that are found to be fake or of low quality,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian in his keynote address at the MACC Forum here. – The Vibes, May 25, 2022
