KUALA LUMPUR – Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN), via its charitable investment arm, PruBSN Prihatin has contributed over RM600,000 from its zakat funds as part of its efforts to battle the worrying third wave of the Covid-19 outbreak in Sabah.
PruBSN chief executive officer cum PruBSN Prihatin president Wan Saifulrizal Wan Ismail said the total contribution of RM609,000 would fund the purchase of an additional 17 units of high-flow nasal cannula machines, 700 units of rapid test kits and 5,000 sets of disposable gowns and head-covering personal protective equipment (PPE) to benefit both frontline medical workers and patients of Covid-19 in the state.
“When the nation was hit by the second wave of Covid-19 in the first half of this year, PruBSN Prihatin also provided financial aid of more than RM500,000 to help strategic partners acquire additional general and medical supplies including PPE that were distributed to government hospitals and district clinics.
“This included the distribution of essential supplies to the B40 community, which have been severely impacted by the movement control order (MCO),” he said in a statement today.
Wan Saifulrizal said, earlier in May, Prudential in Malaysia was among the first insurers and takaful operators to offer free Covid-19 coverage of more than RM2 million to its customers and non-customers via its digital health application, Pulse by Prudential.
He said Prudential remained committed in extending its support to ensure that the health and protection needs of Malaysians continue to be met during this period.
Wan Saifulrizal added that as communities in Sabah continue to battle this outbreak, PruBSN stood resolutely by their sides especially medical frontliners and patients in the hope of easing their burden at this difficult time.
“The close collaborations with our prominent strategic partners help us channel relief efforts to the parties that need support the most. We hope this initiative will inspire others to provide as much assistance as possible to the disadvantaged communities,” he said. – Bernama, November 17, 2020
