SANDAKAN – After waiting for over half a year, the people in Sandakan may finally see a new contractor appointed for rubbish collection and cleaning in the district.

State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that the ministry is going to initiate an open tender to identify a suitable contractor for the job.

He said this after a meeting with Sabah MCA treasurer Datuk Chin Kim Hiung, who brought the issue to his attention recently.

Chin said he did that because rubbish collection is vital in Sandakan as it concerns public health and cleanliness.

Chin who is also MCA Libaran division chairman

He alleged that the delay in the appointment of a contractor for the job was due to incompetent decisions made by the previous Warisan State Government.

Chin, who is also MCA Libaran Division Chairman, hopes the Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) would expedite the process to appoint a contractor.

Since May 3, the SMC has been temporarily collecting rubbish in the district.

The previous contractor decided against renewing it’s license that expired on April 30, after 10 years of service.

The people in Sandakan may not be easily convinced with Masidi’s assurance this time around as Warisan had made similar promises multiple times during its administration in the state.– The Vibes, November 19, 2020.
