KOTA KINABALU – A maritime agency personnel claimed trial at the special corruption court here, today, after he was accused of accepting RM1,500 bribe.
The accused, Jazul Abdullah, 35, was accused of receiving RM1,500 from one Leonard Lee Yin Leong to turn a blind eye to his expired boat licence.
According to the charge, Jazul had allegedly received the money at a parking lot in Alamesra, here, on March 17, last year.
Judge Abu Bakar Manat allowed bail of RM8,000 (deposit RM3,000) and a local surety.
The accused was also ordered to surrender his passport, and report to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission office once every two months.
The charge falls under Section 17(a) of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(1) of the same act.
It provides for a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years, and a fine not less than five times the bribe amount, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. – The Vibes, July 14, 2022
