KUALA LUMPUR – Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abd Aziz has lodged a police report today against an individual who had posted sexually inappropriate comments towards her on Twitter.

Amira lodged her report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, earlier today, accompanied by her legal counsel Luqman Long.

She explained that the individual had made an inappropriate remark when she had shared a photo of her on the same social media platform.

She further said that the comments were laced with sexual connotations as well as “body shaming”, which demeans her dignity as a woman.

“To me, if the comments were constructive in nature about my work or policies, I would accept it openly.

“But if the comments are a form of sexual harassment then it is important for me to report this to police because many women had suffered the same fate.

“With the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill recently passed, I think the public needs to be educated on how important this issue really is,”' she said as quoted by The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister publication, Getaran.

Amira, who is also Muda deputy president, said she will not hesitate to lodge police reports if such incidents repeat in the future.

She also urge members of the public to lodge a police report on any forms of sexual harassment and stressed that it was necessary to send a message that such inappropriate behaviour was unacceptable.

At the same time, Amira also pleaded for the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to immediately gazette the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill.

Her police report has been referred to Serdang district police headquarters for further investigation as she was made aware of the comments while she was in the district. – The Vibes, July 26, 2022
