KUALA LUMPUR – A Terengganu PAS lawmaker has expressed opposition to the plan to use the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo in states held by the Islamist party.
Alur Limbat assemblyman Ariffin Deraman said considering the differences in political narratives and issues between the east coast of Malaysia and other states in the peninsula, PN parties contesting in Terengganu, Kelantan, and Kedah should use the tried and tested moon logo.
Ariffin, who is Terengganu PN’s election director and state exco member, said the use of PN’s colours should only be considered if it can be proven that it will deliver the coalition a landslide victory.
“My request to the PN leadership is that since there are differences between national politics and those in the east coast, we should maintain PAS’s logo there in the coming polls.
“It’s not that our leadership doesn’t accept PN’s logo, but we ask that a study be conducted on which logo the voters prefer for Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu.
“We will accept PN’s logo if the study shows that its symbol can contribute to a big win in the election,” he said in front of some 1,300 delegates present at the convention here today.
Ariffin’s remark follows PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement on July 11 that the coalition would introduce a new logo for use in the 15th general election, taking into account suggestions made by its supreme council.
This came amid indecision within the PAS camp whether to maintain the use of the party’s own flag in the three states it currently rules.
On July 22, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that the party has principally agreed to use PN’s logo, and that the matter would be ironed out with Bersatu soon. – The Vibes, August 27, 2022
