BALING – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has promised RM3.2 million in aid to some 1,000 people from 112 households in Kg Iboi who were displaced by floods in July.
The aid, from a national emergency fund, will be given out in stages, with another RM10 million to follow for the building of a new bridge and to repair social amenities in the village.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony and aid distribution programme at Dataran Keluarga Malaysia here, Ismail Sabri said that he was visiting the district to ensure that promises made earlier to those stricken by the floods were met.
Last July, unusually heavy rain triggered mudflows and flooding from Gunung Inas near the village, washing away homes and a bridge and killing three people.
The bodies of a pregnant woman and her mother-in-law were found in an embrace under a pile of wood debris. The body of a male teenager was also found dead nearby.
Ismail Sabri said his government was caring for the people with subsidies to ensure that the prices of the essential food items remained stable nationwide.
“From cooking oil to flour, petrol and diesel – even the poultry industry was helped by us to ensure that the prices remain affordable under the tide of rising living costs,” he said.
Baling MP Datuk Paduka Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who was also present, thanked Ismail Sabri for deploying 11 ministries to help Baling residents affected by the floods.
He also thanked the federal government for speeding up approval for a district hospital in the area. – The Vibes, September 1, 2022
