KUALA LUMPUR – The Prison Department has denied that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is given special housing on the Kajang Prison grounds.

In a brief Facebook post yesterday, the department shared a screenshot of the viral WhatsApp messages with the caption, “Fake information. Stop its spread”.

The screenshot, branded as “Palsu” (fake), alleged that Najib was given a house on prison grounds to stay in that is meant for senior officers.

This is the second clarification issued by the Prison Department as it refuted on August 24, allegations that it accorded special treatment to Najib.

It denied claims made on Facebook that Najib was given special privileges, including access to better food, beds, and even air-conditioning installed in his prison cell.

Najib was sent to Kajang Prison on the evening of August 23 after the Federal Court upheld the conviction brought against him for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM42 million.

On September 4, Najib was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital after falling ill while his daughter Nooryana Najwa said it was due to a recurring stomach-related ailment.

She posted on her Instagram page that her father is prone to stomach ulcers, especially under stress or due to gastritis.

Najib has since filed a petition for a royal pardon and his MP status will only be decided after the petition process is completed. – The Vibes, September 8, 2022
