KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given his commitment to issues raised in Sabah and Sarawak including both states’ total number of representatives in Parliament.

The prime minister said this was among the concerns raised in the Special Council on the 1963 Malaysia Agreement meeting which he chaired yesterday.

According to his Facebook post today, the meeting was also attended by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, cabinet ministers as well as some Sabah and Sarawak leaders.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili reportedly said that the meeting had endorsed the move of restoring Sabah and Sarawak’s 35% parliamentary seats quota.

The endorsement would enable both states to occupy 78 of the Parliament’s 222 seats.

Besides that, Ismail said other matters discussed in the meeting included the two region’s economies and health.

The prime minister also proclaimed the government’s commitment to develop the two East Malaysian states in Budget 2023 which will be tabled on October 7.

“Insya-Allah, all issues raised in the Borneo states will be attended to in line with the Keluarga Malaysia spirit,” he said. – Bernama, September 9, 2022
