KUALA LUMPUR – The government has been urged to demand answers from Chinese authorities on the whereabouts of Jho Low, who is infamously linked with the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, after the fugitive businessman was allegedly spotted in Shanghai Disneyland in 2019.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman specifically called on cabinet ministers to press for answers from the Chinese government, as most of them were from the “previous corrupt” Barisan Nasional administration led by imprisoned former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“To me, it should come from the cabinet. It’s not just from the prime minister; it’s a collective duty of the cabinet,” he said in an interview titled Where is Jho Low with Project Brazen co-founder Tom Wright, which was uploaded on YouTube today.

“The cabinet today is made of many ministers who came from the previous corrupt government as well, who received the money in 2018.

“The least they could do is to ensure that there is closure on this chapter. The least they could do is to demand a formal answer and response from the Chinese government.”

On August 31, Wright shared an image of a person resembling Low being photographed sitting at a table with two other individuals in what seems to be a restaurant.

The investigative journalist wrote, “Jho Low enjoying a trip to Shanghai Disneyland with friends.”

“Evidence pouring in,” he added.

During an online conversation with his Project Brazen co-founder Bradley Hope, they claimed that Low is leading a domestic life in China, where he is married with two children.

The exact location of his home there, however, is not known.

The journalistic duo are authors of the best-selling book Billion Dollar Whale, which purportedly covers the scandal along with the involvement of Penang-born Low and Najib.

Syed Saddiq also lambasted Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin ridiculing and sidestepping such claims by merely urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of the financial fraudster’s location to contact the relevant Malaysian authorities.

He stressed that Hamzah should be the one to take a proactive role to obtain proper evidence and reach out to the Chinese government to request for further investigation.

While noting that Malaysia has always had a very good relationship with China, he said it would be erroneous for the people to sacrifice the constitution as well as good governance and not demand for a response.

Therefore, the Muar MP called upon fellow Malaysians to help pressure Putrajaya and Chinese authorities to track down Low, including peaceful protests and petitions.

“I think there is a diplomatic way out of this, but for us to do that, Malaysians and the government must be united in demanding this.

“Once we are united, I don’t think the Chinese government can merely ignore the will of the Malaysians, especially when they know that we are a highly valuable (trade and investment) partner.”

In addition, he also beseeched the government to haul up former attorney-general (AG) Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali, who has opened up the line of communication with Low’s scheme.

He said it would be prudent for Apandi to be brought in for questioning to find out more about Low’s location.

“Let’s not forget his shadowy role. The government denied that he was sent as an official representative.

“At the same time, he was saying that it was more of his national service doing it, out of his love for Malaysia.”

Previously, Apandi confirmed that law firm Kobre & Kim – purportedly representing Low – had reached out to him to facilitate meetings with the Malaysian government, to repatriate siphoned monies from 1MDB.

According to a report by The Edge, he arranged a series of meetings between representatives from the law firm who had come to Malaysia and current AG Tan Sri Idrus Harun at the end of May this year.

During his tenure as AG, Apandi cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal in 2016. – The Vibes, September 14, 2022
